It has been a strange weekend for me. I have been and remain quite emotional about recent events.
There is the opposition to the homecoming soldiers. Let’s face it. If that opposition had been aimed at the politicians who sent them in the first place most of us could have agreed with it and even the doubters would recognise their right to protest.
Protesting against the troops themselves is just not on!
In Leigh there was the cowardly attack on our friend Tony Ward. Does it have to come to this on the streets of Britain? We all hope that this is an isolated incident. I have also found myself, and not for the first time, feeling angry with our, in some places, contemptible politicised police service. Who the hell do they think that they are going around telling landlords that they will oppose their next licensing application if they allow the British National Party to use their room.
Again, this is just not on!

This weekend has been a time for study. I have had my head in the books studying for the vast majority of the weekend with very little time for anything else. Boring yes but sometimes it has to be done.
