The British National Party Truth Truck came to Nuneaton today to begin the West Midlands leg of its countrywide tour promoting the British National Party for the European elections on June 4th.
The BBC World Service were in attendance. They are interested in obtaining opinion about all parties entered in the forthcoming European elections.
Alwyn Deacon, West Midlands election officer, was interviewed first and answered several questions about the Truth Truck.
We then joined activists passing out the glossy EU leaflets to the many passers by in Nuneaton town centre while the BBC interviewers mingled with the townsfolk and asked their opinion. Apparently we certainly seem to have a few voters out there! No surprise to me but hey ho, they had to ask didn’t they?
I was interviewed at some length on the political side of things and I must say that I was impressed by the interviewer. I was asked a range of sensible questions and always allowed the courtesy of time to answer fully.
I enjoyed the questioning about where our support comes from. My favourite was the one about my opinion on Harriet Harmon's report that the BNP will pick up support because of the recession. I really should send that lady flowers, but I am not going to. Let her buy her own breakfast.
It was explained that the producers would edit the recording at a later date and pick the pieces that suited them which is par for the course on this type of interview. Anything recorded in advance will be edited.
I have no idea when the program will be aired on the world service but if it is linkable I will find it and post it on this blog so that you can make your own minds up.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable time in the town today as did the activists. We handed out many of the glossy EU leaflets and people changed direction to collect one. Not what you normally see in town centres. Stand in the middle of town one day with a clipboard if you don’t believe me. You will have many square feet to yourself.
This area has a very positive future for the British National Party. Watch this space.
