Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council Core Strategy

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has to prepare a Core Strategy document which must contain the preferred location of 10,800 homes, rising to 15,000 when the overspill from the Coventry area is included.

I think it important to point out that this requirement is as a result of the Regional Spatial Strategy which is being carried out by the West Midlands Regional Development Agency.  This is being imposed upon us by an unelected body put in place by the government so that its plans to build over counties cannot meet with opposition.

It is the job of elected representatives such as myself and protest groups to inform and oppose this at every step.

As a British National Party councillor I will oppose this undemocratic imposition at every opportunity.

The council has provided three online resources to help you find information and have your say:

1) Core Strategy’s Blog
2) An information page of where you can see road shows and get some generalised information
3) Core Strategy Issues & Options Consultation page which is where the heavy information can be found and you can record your comments.

You may find the resources on this page of the RDA interesting: - West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy - Examination in Public, Spring 2009.  this page contains the contact details and e-mail address of the Head of Planning Policy.  Maybe you would like to give him your opinions directly.

The housing that we are being told that we will accept is overspill from Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham mainly.  The overspill from Coventry is in addition to this.

This development should be on their existing development land not our green fields!

There is no increase in the number of worthwhile jobs in this area and the placing of land for development will not necessarily bring them either.  Manufacturing is leaving this country not coming to it.  Why should this borough be any different.

The additional retail development space is the equivalent to two developments the same size as the ‘Rope Walk’ shopping arcade in Nuneaton.

We are told that provision for health and education will be developed in line with local requirements.  this sounds like pie in the sky to me.  Where is the money going to come from?  I am not talking about just now either.  This strategy lasts until 2026 so where is the money going to come from for this as well as all of the governments other spending commitments that it cannot fund?

Transport in the Borough is overstretched at present.  West Nuneaton in particular which has absorbed most of the development around the town over recent years, all of the significant development in fact apart from Horeston Grange.

Looking at Nuneaton and Bedworth we are the poorest, unhealthiest, worst educated and least employed are of the county.  Our prospects are in the intensive care ward as it is.  This massive development will only make it worse.

If anyone out there understands carbon footprints then try to imagine the effect that this will have.  These people will not be working locally.

Last night there was a very lively discussion at the road show which took place at the Stockingford and Arbury Locality Meeting.  Over one hundred people were in attendance which is excellent.  Many questions were asked and answered by the council team and some of the councillors present.

It is most important that local residents view the information for themselves and form their own view and then go on to make their comments known.

The result of this Core Strategy document will be
important to Nuneaton, Bedworth
and Bulkington until 2026!

Make your view known!
