Yesterday evening whilst driving through town Sian told me that she had seen a fire.
If Sian tells you that she has seen a fire you stop and take a look so, having parked up, we walked back and sure enough the partially demolished pub on Queens Road in Nuneaton was on fire at the rear of the property. no flames were visible from the road but the smoke soon started to billow up.
There did not seem to be much possibility of danger to life and limb but you never know and there was most certainly high possibility of the property next door going up with it so, I called the Fire Brigade.
It was not long before the Fire Brigade arrived and (pictured left) gained access to the site by cutting through the chain securing the entrance.
The property was burning well by now and two members of the crew donned breathing apparatus to check out the inside of the property. I guess even the people who set the fire might be stuck inside, you never know but the fire fighters have to check.
The young lady herself (unfortunately blinking when I took the picture) was fascinated that her spotting a fire could result in this kind of response and wanted to stay to make sure that everyone was alright.
Sian is a member of the Girl Guides and their recent trip to the fire station unfortunately had to be called off. After seeing this she is really hoping that it can be rearranged.
We are very proud of Sian not just for spotting the fire in the first place but for wanting to report it instead of just driving by.
Once the call was made Sian wanted to stay, not particularly to see the fire engines though she did enjoy those, to make sure that everyone was safe. Sian was especially concerned about the wellbeing of the fire crews who attended the incident.
Saving the neighbouring shop premises from damage when you are eleven is a big day in itself.
Well done Sian!
