The audacity of ‘em!

nhs direct

You will have heard of NHS direct 24/7.  They are the always available telephone service of the National Health service.

All well and good.  The nearest hospital to us is the George Eliot Hospital at Nuneaton.  I am a driving instructor in the Nuneaton and Bedworth area.  Imagine my surprise to return home to find out that NHS Direct had rang and asked if they could have cheaper driving lessons for foreign employees if they guaranteed multiple customers.

Debbie was extremely polite as always and pointed out that we charge reasonable rates for all.  This apparently was not good enough as they did not ring back.  There are many desperate driving instructors about at the moment, thankfully I am not one of them, who are prepared to engage ridiculous terms to attract business.

Why are NHS direct ringing around booking driving lessons for multiple students at once if they are not themselves, and therefore you the taxpayer, paying for the lessons?

This is not the first time that I have come across similar practices.  On a previous occasion it was a university, the pupil brought cash to the lesson but had to ask for a receipt to return to administration the following day.  Not hard to work out why.
