I have found myself looking around the BBC website this afternoon and came across these three stories which interested me particularly.
bullying has a massive effect upon the quality of life of its victims.
Their education obviously suffers when the bullying takes place within the school environment.
According to the article, 'Forced' from school by bullies, there are around 6,000 pupils who have been taken out of, or invited to leave, mainstream schooling in England because of bullying.
As a family we have two children currently home educated and two younger children in mainstream schooling. These figures are no surprise to me at all. Home schooling is not for everyone and I would never advocate it as being ‘right’ in all cases but there are people who I have met who only began to home educate as a last ditch response to their children being bullied in school.
This is a sad indictment in my mind not on the schools as much as on the deteriorating standards of behaviour throughout society. As a former school governor I cannot count the times when teachers would say that such and such a child could not be effectively controlled because the parents did not care. They were not kidding either.
I was heartened to see the heading 'Radical rethink' needed on food because I thought that it might mean that the government had realised that with global population outstripping food supply and with the effects of higher energy prices we will effectively get less return per acre in the long term future and we need to secure our food supplies.
I was partially right. They have recognised a part of the problem but think that the way forward is to talk about talking to people and recognising the good work of the retailers who are already taking action. Really! Retailers are continually working out ways of lining their pockets and quite right too. They are shareholder based private companies and that is their job.
It is the job of government to govern and it is a shame that ours does not have the guts to see the problem correctly, never mind try to find a viable solution.
This article asks the question should there be A protected life for Baby P pair after their release from prison.
I would only protect them to the point of handing them over to the hangman personally but under no circumstances can i accept that society should have to foot the bill for the continued protection of these people after their release from prison. If they have to be released back into the community, and they never should be, then they should be escorted out of the front gate of the prison (on a previously advertised time and date) with the security cameras turned off.
I will admit that this would be barbaric justice but I feel that it is what they deserve.
