I most sincerely hope not!
The calculation with regards the salary implications looks easy enough. Hmmm, a nice fat saving. Look a little deeper though and ask yourself why a borough has a Chief executive in the first place.
Please take my word for it that when I have been in to see the Chief Exec on matters her appointments board has been full.
How far can this council job sharing scheme be taken? If we only need one Chief Exec do we really need two Monitoring Officers? Would one Director of Legal Services surfice as long as the departments remained? If we contract out all of the parks contracts could we not lose a highly paid manager in each authority there as well?
The answer to all of these questions and many more is possibly. One thing is for certain. Even with only eighteen months within the walls of the Council House you have my word on it that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will be poorer for it in terms of services and cash if these amalgamated job schemes are brought in.
Just for once i find myself in agreement with the leader of the Labour group in today’s Nuneaton News.
