Prospective Parliamentary Candidates – Nuneaton Constituency.

As the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC)  for the Nuneaton constituency in the forthcoming General Election I do smile to myself occasionally when I see the opposition in the local newspapers.

Conservative:

In the Conservative Corner we have PPC and borough councillor Marcus Jones who is interested in the railways and quite a while ago started a petition which has gained 22 signatures (at time of publishing this post) because he wants to attract more London commuters to come and live in Nuneaton.  Don’t believe me?  Read it for yourself.  Marcus has recently received more coverage for his rubbish cleanup behind an industrial unit than for anything else.

Marcus lives in the constituency though works in Coventry, is currently a borough councillor and did lead the council for twelve months.

Labour:

In the Labour corner we have PPC Jayne Innes.  Jayne’s campaign hinges around saving the fire stations.  Where would you think her campaign manager might choose for the group photograph?  Maybe outside the fire station, or could I offer as a possibility the site of the proposed new fire station.  In a fit of inspirational brilliance they decided to hold their campaign photo-session on the car park of a community centre in Barpool ward.  Nowhere near either site but the nearest car park to my house and conveniently located in the ward with British National Party representation.

Concerned about losing some of their shrinking majority are they?

Jayne lives and works miles outside the constituency though she has said that she will consider moving here if elected.  Jayne is only seen in Nuneaton when campaigning or when someone wants to point a camera at her.

Jayne Innes does not like people mentioning this but she was previously parachuted into a decent seat in Birmingham Yardley as a favour for work done for cabinet ministers and MP’s.  She did not get elected so was parachuted into this constituency and given the advantage of an all female shortlist.  The party of equality should not do that should they?

If you want to vote for a candidate from a single sex shortlist who has no history in the constituency and has never been elected to represent anybody then Jayne Innes is your logical choice.

I find it inconceivable that the electorate are going to be particularly enthused by either of the campaigns above.  The fire stations is a county council issue whereas the railways is a contractor.  I do understand why they do not wish to discuss the relevant topics of the day.  With the policies of their respective parties they are hardly likely to discuss foreign wars, the economy, immigration or national identity are they?

British National Party:

I have the pleasure of being the PPC for the British National Party.  I am borough councillor for Barpool ward on Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, live in the ward with my wife and our four children and work in the constituency as a driving instructor.

My opinions on many things are easily available to you by looking around on this blog.

I cannot get into the papers for love nor money at the moment and have not been able to for quite a while so cannot compare my coverage.  I have told everyone that I am willing but hey, we know the score.

Only an indication of media bias but so far, and I was declared months ago, I am not even listed as the British National Party PPC on UK Polling Report.
