Well folks it has happened at last. Now we will find out just how powerful the institutions of the European Union are when it comes to interfering with our domestic political matters.
The Council of Europe requires the dissolution of the British National Party

STRASBOURG (Novopress): The success in the United Kingdom by the British National Party (BNP) in the European elections of June 2009 is unpalatable to the Council of Europe. With 6.2% of votes, the BNP, led by Nick Griffin (the cons), had two members who have joined the European Parliament, the Alliance of European national movements (AMNE) comprising elected representatives of the National Front and those of Hungarian Jobbik.
But in a report released this afternoon by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), Council of Europe "greatly concerned" that the election of two members, together with structuring "substantial local support bases in certain regions," the BNP offers a forum, "which could lead to the development of overtly racist British society."
Consequently, ECRI calls on the UK "to take steps to rectify the exploitation of racism in politics" and said that according to its General Policy Recommendation No. 7 adopted in December 2002, "Law should be possible to dissolve organizations that promote racism. "In clear: the United Kingdom adopted emergency legislation allowing him to dissolve the BNP, one of whose slogans is:" British Jobs for British Workers ".
Chaired by a Latvian Nils Muiznieks, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) has members from 47 countries comprising the Council of Europe (including Turkey).
Interesting times indeed. I am not interested in the general hullaballoo that will be raised in the media. I am interested in the legal ramifications of this. Is this particular body even allowed to make such a call on a member nation?
Personally I doubt it but we will see.
