Cameron of the Conservatives is showing himself up as being contemptuously condescending with his display of the Conservative gay candidates list. I am certain that the very purpose of equal rights is that groups of people are treated the same and no-one cares about their differences.
Clearly Cameron does. This intellectually inebriated display of showboating with his ‘rainbow’ dozen openly gay MP’s does nothing to further equality. Rather it acts as a patronising prelude to whichever group Cameron wishes to hold the flame of publicity to next.
I am not one for predictions but we have seen groups of women, gay; lesbian (and transgender?) as well as ethnic minority candidates prioritised already so it must be the turn of the disabled. I strongly suggest that any members of the Conservative party confined to wheelchairs should confine themselves indoors should Cameron venture into their constituency. The thought of dodgy Dave slaloming hapless Harold from Haversham through the portals of Westminster for a publicity shoot is not one that I care to hang on to. Even less one that I should care to write a ‘elf an’ safety risk assessment for.
There is no substitute for policies in a General Election campaign and therein lies the rub. The dossier on dodgy Dave is empty. The whiplash from the last u-turn on the economy has left him incapable of navigating his way to number ten.
I am not personally convinced that he wants the job anyway. Possibly better for him if Labour win and preside over the double dip + direct euro taxation which will consign the economy to basket case status. Preening at stage left would suit him nicely whilst Blairites torture Brown in the prelude to his abandonment by his myopic New Labour project. Emerging to oversee the surgical removal of Socialism from British politics for decades as the left fractures and writhes its way into obscurity. Nascent Conservatism erupting to save the day. Emerging that is if he too has not been replaced by someone with the ruthlessness necessary to win an election.
