UK cannot afford to support children who reside elsewhere

To most of you this will be as clear as the water around your favourite imaginary deserted desert island.

Why then do UK taxpayers get saddled with benefit payments for children related to claimants when it is known that the children do not reside here?  This situation will not resolve itself and is only going to be exacerbated by falling European economies.

Who can blame anxious parents for dramatically improving their family standard of living, by legal means, when encouraged to do so?  Not I!  I am very contemptuous however of our home grown politicians who encourage this kind of thing.  I have never agreed with it but at a time when the UK economy is barely treading water this millstone is overdue for removal from the necks of overburdened UK taxpayers.  Anyone who thinks that immigration numbers can be meaningfully reduced with this system so well embedded is delusional: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/312438/-42m-benefit-bill-for-children-who-don-t-even-live-in-Britain
