An Argentine suggestion

The Argentine prime minister has declared that any oil/minerals extracted from The Falkland Island territories will be legally challenged.

This is an incredibly expensive, drawn out, and expensive process.  Maybe she should save a few bob and pay £250,000 to be enthralled/ignored by David Cameron in person.

Just a suggestion.

Time with Prime Minister David Cameron for sale!

The price apparently is a cool £250,000 if you have it.  In return you get to meet the prime minister, put your point of view forward, and ask any question.

I have only two observations to make on this:

1) No surprise.  This sort of thing is inevitable with the current crop of untrustworthy politicians.

2)  Personally I would not believe a single answer that he gave and talking to a floor board directly is free in my house.

Stop HS2

I can take no credit for the production or content of this clip. It is merely my pleasure to share it with you all providing, as it does, a fairly comprehensive explanation of the objections to HS2.

Now some burglars are waiting until you are in! Keep an eye on the vulnerable near you please.

This seems like total madness to me but the reality of the situation is that crime changes as circumstances change.  A piece from my local Barpoolward Blog this but the content is just as valid apparently wherever you are.  This is a growing trend nationwide.  Watch the clip for more.

Nick Clegg is attending Rio+20

Rio+20 is a global conference on the environment being held in Rio-de-Janeiro twenty years after the last one held there.  I can only imagine that Nick Clegg lost the coin toss for which David Cameron is very grateful.  I can only imagine the delight of other world leaders at being joined by the least effective member of an inefficient coalition government.

This does not bode well, but it will be interesting to see what he does, or indeed can, sign us up to.

Spain needs to be careful.

Spain is getting itself into the news for all the wrong reasons. Dire economic woes, social upset and now we are told a threatened general strike.

This is clearly not a good time to be the Spanish leader.  The general strike, should it go ahead, is in protest at new labour laws that make it far easier and cheaper for companies to get rid of permanent contract workers and basically brings them into line with the situation in the UK.

Whereas I can understand Spaniards looking at our economy for ideas they need to open their eyes to the fact that socially and industrially our lax labour laws are a disaster for Britain.

We have long and bitter experience of the fact that if you make your workers cheaper to dismiss then they will automatically be the first target of the big companies should layoffs suit the bottom line.  Of all the aspects of our economy to choose to copy this is one that they should run away from, which I am sure that they would if they recognise it as the charging bull that it is.

For their sake I hope that they do.

Is Greek default likely to spread?

Queue here signAn interesting question and my answer would have to be: Yes, but neither as fast nor with the same effect as the ash from an Icelandic volcano.

You have to remember that the international Credit Default Swap market is worth trillions.  Even now that the committee has decided that payment is due the markets will not wobble.  The simple fact is that international marketeers are almost by definition the most practical of people and will have seen this event coming.

With equal certainty there is now a ‘queue here’ sign and further defaults will be expected.
